Facebook Campaign

Background:

My page will focus on promoting the articles I have written as a Dixie Sun News journalist. Here I have already uploaded my first article I've written since spring semester started. I also am constantly tweeting about current events, and linking articles that have been uploaded to the Dixie Sun News. I really want to get my name out there as an aspiring writer so I don't go unnoticed among millions of others attempting to do the same.

Media Personas:

Jessica Walker, 19, St. George

Jessica just transferred to Dixie State University and wants to stay updated on the local news, specifically pertaining to school events and gatherings. She really wants to be involved in her community but also get the college experience.

Debbie Chapman, 45, St. George

St. George resident Debbie Chapman has quite an interest in her town's current events. She also likes to stay involved in her local university's news because she is a Dixie State alumna.

Josh Patterson, 33, Salt Lake City

Josh is in charge of gathering new interns for the local newspaper, Salt Lake Tribune. The newspaper's numbers are at an all time low, and he wants to hire aspiring college writers who can bring new perspectives and ideas. He feels the newspaper is disconnected from the modern times and wants to bring that back with higher ratings than ever seen before.

Reaching an audience:

So far, I have gained 11 followers since creating this page a few days ago. I think the first step is reaching out to friends and family because their number of friends combined can really reach an array of people. Just from a few shares, my very first article has already reached over 100 people. In order to gain a larger audience, I want to promote my Facebook page across all of my social media accounts. I plan to place the link to this page in my bio for Twitter, Instagram and Tumblr.
I think interacting with my audience is also a must. Mentioning someone's name or being able to relate to a comment by linking my story can really get my page noticed.  Another feature I need to address is networking.

I plan to upload two articles a week, and also share posts alluding to what my articles will be about hours before.

#inauguration

Here are some tweets and Facebook posts I saw throughout the day:

After going through all my social media, I'm not surprised by what was circulating. While Michelle Obama's facial expressions were humorous, majority of these tweets were pretty depressing to read. Seeing #NotMyPresident infuriates me because it just sounds pathetic. We all knew he would become our president since November, so it's time to accept it and move on. The moment President Trump does something worth protesting, I will be among many to stand against him.

On the Media's "January Surprise"

I believe Buzzfeed made a terrible mistake by deciding to publish the Trump- Russia dossier to the public. Brooke Gladstone made a great point in saying, "Here you have basically tainted the public opinion jury pool." Essentially, Buzzfeed released these sketchy details about President- elect Trump, leaving the average American to decide the authenticity when they could not? This definitely has affected everyone in a sense. Rather than focus on the bigger picture like Gladstone alluded to with cases such as Obamacare and Russia, people are focusing entirely on this dossier. It is clear this dossier will dominate news cycles for at least a couple of weeks, but I do not find this to be the most important issue at hand. Families shouldn't be raging over lewd acts President- elect Trump may or may not have done. Instead, they need to think about whether or not their children will still be able to get healthcare at 26 years-old.

I also believe Buzzfeed went against basic journalistic values. Throughout my educational endeavors, I am constantly instructed to only write accurately. Without this credibility, who would want to read or listen to what any media outlet has to say? According to Journalism expert Tony Rogers, "A reporter's primary mission is always to find the truth, whether that means questioning and challenging statements." In Buzzfeed's attempts to be the first multimedia network to share this, it may or may not result in severe repercussions. Will Oremus briefly mentioned that if this dossier circulates, it may bring forth witnesses who can validate this information. While that may be true, I believe those with certain political agendas may take advantage of this, causing even more chaos. These witnesses could turn out to be just like those so- called Trump rape victims- phony.

Another issue I have with Buzzfeed is the fact that this only contributed to people's utter hatred for Trump, on the basis of what? These aren't facts, they're simply allegations, yet I have to listen to these questionable statements because certain people act as parrots. They lack an understanding of this dossier, but they already believe it to be true. Buzzfeed basically psychologically manipulated people into thinking they can prove the dossier's authenticity. If the U.S. Intelligence has not figured it out, how will the American people? We should always be skeptical of news like this, especially when it isn't backed up by facts.
